Floating Timber Stairs

Our stunning WF floating timber staircase is our most open and light staircase.  It is formed with only a wall stringer leaving the treads cantilevering directly from the wall.  The lack of stringer down the open side allows the passage of light and create a stunning floating effect.

It works with a specially designed handrail which takes the load on the exposed side.  Steel spindles screw into this handrail, supporting the treads with the load displayed between the newel posts top and bottom.

This staircase is produced in 42mm hardwood treads and wall stringer with oak and beech the most popular.   It can also be constructed with birch, maple, ash, walnut or elm and is delivered oiled, varnished or left raw.  It is manufactured in a straight flight, a quarter turn or a half turn and in widths up to 1100mm.  With the quarter and half turn models we have the option of a adding a curved handrail at the inner turn which adds a stunning swoop to the flight.

Each model is custom made for the project with drawings being prepared before any manufacture commences.

We have a full flight WF floating timber staircase in the showroom.

Given the popularity of this floating timber staircase we have created its very own website –

Their website features a comprehensive and inspirational gallery along with a catalogue of completed projects.  They also have a useful blog page which features articles covering some of the technical aspects of the stairs they offer.
