2.0 PROJECT CONTEXT

2.1 The site was originally occupied by Bedford House, a purpose built day care centre, dating from the 1970’s. The existing building was centrally located within the site and took the form of a part single storey and part two storey building, finished with flat roofs which was provided with associated car parking and ancillary space within the sites grounds.

2.2 The layout was designed to follow both the existing and historic grain of development, arranging the houses in a formal layout fronting a shared surface street, creating a new terrace of properties at the bottom of Amoy Street.

3.0 DESCRIPTION OF THE PROPOSAL

3.1 The development is located on the edge of a conservation area within Southampton City Centre and was deigned to relate with the existing context in terms of form, mass, footprint and scale and designed reflect characteristics of existing neighbouring properties that adopt a traditional Terraced House form of development.

3.2 Materially the elevations were comprised of red brick multi, incorporate feature flashed projections utilizing zinc, include grey UPVC doors & windows and are finished with grey concrete interlocking tiles.

3.3  Through the combination of feature projections combined with a simple material pallet, the development blends traditional forms of building with contemporary features to create an interesting scheme which complements and reflects and enhances the existing and neighbouring Built Environment.

4.0 PROJECT SUMMARY
