Realising your ambition of building an oak framed house can be a daunting prospect. How long will it take, how much will it cost, who will make it, what will it look like, will it rain, will it snow, will it be worth it in the end?… If you are contemplating such an adventure we invite you to join us on a journey, following the design, manufacture, raising and finishing of a new house which happens rather handily, to be just a few miles away, practically on our doorstep here in the Welsh Marches.
The house will be a modestly proportioned three-bedroom oak framed structure of 163m² clad with a highly insulated and air tight SIPs (structural insulated panel) envelope. We have been commissioned to build and erect the oak frame by Peter the client, and will take you with us through the planning, design, building and (hopefully) completion of his new house.
Who knows, we may inspire you to have a go yourselves. I’m sure there will be highs and lows, tears and tantrums, delays and last minute changes of plan — whatever happens, welcome along, it should be fun!
Next week: we take a look at the design and planning stages
