This month’s cover (pictured below) is unusual for Homebuilding & Renovating in that, for the first time in almost a decade, we have some people on the front.
They are, of course, the winners of this year’s Daily Telegraph Homebuilding & Renovating Awards but they’re on the cover because their story is so special, and they stand for what we think might just be a new lifestyle pattern emerging.
For Rob and Alithea, in case you haven’t read the story in the new January issue, gave up a life in the city a decade or so ago to buy 35 acres of woodland in beautiful Powys. They set up a rural business and eventually got permission to build an oak frame home that is one of the best we’ve ever seen, and all on a remarkably low budget. You can read more about it here.
Having met Rob and Alithea, and visited their home, it’s not too difficult to be a little envious of their bravery. Living in the middle of the countryside in a fantastic family home with little of the daily pressure the rest of us seem to suffer from (I’m sure the reality is somewhat different of course) – who wouldn’t?
