According to a survey, East Anglia was the region with the highest percentage of air source heat pumps in new builds

The regions in the UK with the most new builds with heat pumps installations has been revealed in a study.
The research, conducted by Confused.com, revealed which areas performed best for both ground and air source heat pump installations in new builds based on EPC ratings that were issued.
It was also revealed that the number of heat pumps in homes has been growing since 2018 and they are becoming much more popular in households.
East Anglia has highest percentage of installations
East Anglia is the most represented area on the list of regions with the highest percentage of air source heat pumps in new builds.
Five of the top 10 come from East Anglia. King's Lynn and West Norfolk in the region were top of the list with 52.12% of new builds installing an air source heat pump.
However, Cornwall in the South West installed the highest number of heat pumps by quite a distance with 3359 being installed into new builds representing 24.42% of new build installations.

Wales sees highest percentage of GSHPs
For ground source heat pumps Wales was the region with most represented on the list of installations in new build properties.

Four out of the top 10 regions were in Wales with Cardiff, Swansea, Ceredigion and Rhondda Cynon Taf, who finished second, all featuring.
However, it was Pendle in the North East that saw the highest percentage (7.78%) although this was only 83 installations. Cornwall again saw the highest amount with 477 installations.

Are heat pumps becoming more popular?
The survey from Confused energy also showed the growth in heat pump installations since 2018.
Installation of air source heat pumps went from 2.68% in 2018 to 7.58% in 2023, a jump of 4.9% whilst ground source heat pump installations rose from 0.21% to 0.47% in 2023, a change of 0.26%.
As of last year 53,758 new homes (4.92% of total new builds) have either air source or ground source heat pumps showing a continued drive towards more sustainable heating solutions.
