After a busy two weeks demolition of the old farmhouse was completed today. I cannot speak too highly of the small team from Winchcombe Reclamation – pleasant, proficient and professional. I can thoroughly recommend them if you need demolition services.
Thanks to heavy overnight rain the site is now a quagmire but the strong winds characteristic of the site should soon dry it out. Whilst bricks were removed and cleaned by hand, a Merlo telehandler with a self levelling cab and a 17 tonne JCB excavator helped clear the remaining hardcore. Large numbers of bricks & tiles have been reclaimed as well as many of the old beams.
Plenty more research to do whilst waiting for better weather to excavate for the passive slab. The Building Specifications have been submitted and tenders invited for the hemcrete walls. Comparing the merits of various septic tank systems including BioPure, WPL and Klargester and reading up on rainwater harvesting. Talking to Green Building Store about triple glazed windows and well insulated doors and exploring options for solar thermal and MHRV.
