We are converting an (illegal) conservatory with kitchen into a proper brick kitchen extension with bi-folds and roof lights. Our architect says we can only use 25% of the ‘new’ (aka current conservatory) floor space for the doors/roof lantern.

This will leave our kitchen VERY dark, requiring lots of electic lighting. I see so many completed extension pictures in magazines and Pinterest with HUGE windows/doors for the floor space. Is she totally right in her limitations? Are there any exceptions we could use to increase the roof light size? Many thanks.

The area is generally 25% plus the area of any external openings being built over. You can increase this further by using a trade-off (triple glazed windows, higher insulation spec etc). (Scottish regs)
