Conservation Area

Conservation Areas were introduced in the late 1960s for the purpose of protecting and enhancing areas of special architectural or historic interest by placing additional development control on new works in order to minimise the loss of the existing built and natural environment.

If you plan to build a new house or improve an existing one in a Conservation Area, there will probably be some complications with the planning process. But if you plan ahead the Conservation Area route can be can be easily navigated and it can actually be a positive enhancement, not least to the final design of the house.
