Renovating a house can be thrilling, stressful, and full of surprises, but few homeowners expect the kind this Leeds couple uncovered.

The pair, who share the renovation of their home on TikTok under the account @ourrenovation324, posted a video of their discovery that quickly went viral.

What they didn’t anticipate was the series of hidden gems lurking behind the walls of their derelict, five-year-abandoned home.

“This is going to be the biggest hidden feature”

The couple were in the middle of a renovation when they decided to remove what looked like a simple fireplace cover.

To their astonishment, beneath the flimsy board lay a cream AGA, a classic cast-iron stove known for its always-on radiant heat and iconic British kitchen style.

In the TikTok video capturing the reveal, the woman narrates as her partner pries the board loose, “This is going to be the biggest hidden feature.” When the AGA is fully visible, the woman exclaims in surprise, "Ooo its an AGA!"

Viewers were quick to react, commenting, “Omg that'd be amazing if you can get it up and running again,” and “Lucky find. I hope you keep it and get it working. I'd love one in mine.”

'The surprises keep on giving'

As the renovation continued, the couple discovered a first hidden fireplace, tucked behind another wall.

Social media users were astonished, “SERIOUSLY! Why on earth would you cover that up. It’s absolutely beautiful,” one wrote, while another asked, “Where's the criminal who covered that up?”

The AGA will remain a feature of their kitchen, while this first empty fireplace is planned to be removed and transformed into a dressing room. Fans weighed in with curiosity and advice: “Why u getting rid of it?!!” and “In this climate you’ve found two fireplaces. Get them cleaned & back into action!”

Not one, but two hidden fireplaces

Just when they thought the surprises were over, the couple uncovered a second hidden fireplace, proving the house still had secrets to reveal.

One fan joked: “It’s like your house is one big advent calendar lol.” Another added: “Wow another fireplace, didn’t like cleaning them out did they?”

The trio of hidden features - the AGA and two fireplaces – turned what started as a renovation project into an ongoing adventure, delighting both the couple and their viral TikTok audience.
