If you're a fan of smart home technology you might be surprised to learn that some of the most exciting product launches this year come from none other than one of the UK's favourite home furniture stores.
IKEA has launched 21 new smart home products across lighting, sensors and control devices, giving homeowners and renovators new ways to design a smart home that is easy to use, flexible and practical. And the best part? The latest products are affordable and easy to integrate into your existing setup, too.
The updated range spans lighting, sensors, and control devices, with features aimed at improving everyday living, safety, and convenience. As you'd expect from IKEA, it's all about making smart home technology approachable – you can start small, automate the things that really matter and expand your setup over time without getting locked into a single brand. Here's why you should keep a look out for these products on your next visit.
Ease of use with other smart home products
One of the key points to note is that IKEA's smart home products are designed to be Matter-compatible. Not sure what that means and why it makes a difference? In basic terms, Matter is an open, industry-backed smart home standard that allows devices from different manufacturers to work together.
Instead of being locked into a single brand’s ecosystem, Matter-enabled bulbs, sensors, and hubs can communicate with each other across platforms, making it easier to set up automated lighting, temperature control, security alerts, and more.
IKEA’s adoption of Matter means its smart products can integrate smoothly with other brands, giving homeowners flexibility for phased upgrades or mixed-device setups.
IKEA's smart lighting options
The popular KAJPLATS range of bulbs introduces new designs across standard globes, spotlights and decorative shapes.
Most are dimmable, with options for colour and white spectrum, and are designed to integrate with other Matter-compatible devices, making it easier to plan smart lighting across different rooms.

Among the range, the E27 colour and white spectrum bulb stands out for us due to its wide range of features:
- Colour-changing and white spectrum functionality in one standard globe
- Brightness range of 1,055 lumens with a broader spectrum than previous TRÅDFRI bulbs
- Can be combined with Matter hubs to create automated lighting scenes
Other bulbs in the range include E27/E26 globes with varying lumen outputs, compact P45 E14 bulbs in white or colour-changing versions, GU10 spotlights, and clear-glass decorative bulbs for smaller fittings.
We really like how this range lets you mix bulb types in different rooms without overcomplicating installation or control, making it easy to build a practical lighting scheme.
The new KAJPLATS bulbs range is also affordable, ranging from about £7–£10, compared with older TRÅDFRI bulbs that often sold from around £7–£15 for similar fittings before being phased out.

IKEA's smart home sensors
IKEA has also introduced five new sensors to monitor the home environment and improve safety.
These include motion sensors, door and window sensors, temperature and humidity sensors, air quality monitors, and water leakage detectors. The ALPSTUGA air quality sensor stands out for us thanks to its clever features:
- Measures CO₂, particulate matter, temperature and humidity
- Can integrate with Matter hubs to trigger devices such as air purifiers
- Combines multiple environmental measurements in one device, making it versatile for everyday home use
Other sensors in the range include MYGGSPRAY motion sensors, MYGGBETT door/window sensors, TIMMERFLOTTE temperature and humidity sensors, and KLIPPBOK water leak sensors for high-risk areas.
We’re particularly interested in this range because it focuses on practical solutions to problems homeowners face every day, such as brightening a dark hallway, improving kitchen ventilation, or preventing bathroom leaks and damp. The sensors make these challenges easier to manage without complex setups.
The new sensors are priced between £5 and £25, which is comparable to the older TRÅDFRI models and keeps them accessible for homeowners looking to deploy multiple sensors across a home.

IKEA's smart control devices
IKEA’s updated range of control devices allows users to operate smart home products from a distance and manage multiple devices or preset scenes.
These include individual remotes and remote kits that work with Matter-enabled hubs. The BILRESA remote control with dual button is one that stood out for us.
- Switches lights on or off, adjusts brightness, changes colour, and triggers preset scenes
- Works with Matter-enabled hubs to control other Matter-compatible devices
- Simple and compact design for use across multiple rooms
Other devices in the range include the BILRESA remote with scroll wheel, which allows more granular control of brightness, colour, or groups of devices, and BILRESA remote control kits with multiple units in different colours for controlling several devices or rooms.
These remotes are great for homeowners who want manual control in addition to automation, or for multi-room setups that don't require a phone app for every adjustment.
The BILRESA remotes cost around £3–£10, so they can actually be cheaper than the older TRÅDFRI remotes that typically retailed for about £8–£10 in the UK, making it easier to outfit multiple rooms without a high expense.

Additional products and compatibility
Beyond these smart home tech highlights, IKEA has updated or added additional smart plugs, remote kits and accessories designed to integrate older TRÅDFRI devices into the Matter ecosystem.
This is significant for homeowners and renovators planning phased upgrades or retrofits, as devices from different brands can now operate together within a single system. The launch demonstrates a focus on flexibility, reflecting wider trends in the smart home market.
All of which means you can mix new and older devices without redoing your setup, making smart homes cheaper, more achievable, and less intimidating.
