Shower pumps

The purpose of a shower pump is relatively simple – to maintain a constant water pressure. But the things that make a shower pump the right fit for a specific water system are more complex. There are two general classifications of shower pump: positive head and negative head. Beyond that, shower pumps can also either be single impeller – which can only cater for one temperature of water, or twin impeller – which can be used for both hot and cold water.

A positive head shower pump relies on gravity to provide a flow of water at the outlet. Because of this, there needs to be a gap of 500mm between the shower head and the base of the cistern for a positive head shower pump to work properly. A negative head shower pump meanwhile, can work without the helping hand of gravity, and is therefore more flexible and can be used in a greater variety of configurations of water system.

Submersible pumps

Submersible pumps are amongst the most versatile type of pumps we stock at Pump Sales Direct – and considering the vast range of pump types we stock, that’s really saying something. As long as you have an underwater pumping requirement, a submersible pump is likely to be just what you’re looking for.

Single stage impeller submersible pumps possess a variety of uses – everything from effluent and sewage pumping, to drainage and pond filters. Where a higher water output pressure is required, multiple stage impeller pumps are usually a better fit. Typically located in boreholes, multiple stage impeller submersible pumps are most commonly used in water abstraction and wells.

It is always important to know exactly what liquid you are pumping before you buy. Not all submersible pumps are capable of handling combustible liquids and clean water pumps (as opposed to dirty water pumps) are incapable of pumping water that contains particles above 1mm in diameter.

Sump pumps

By removing excess liquid, sump pumps are designed to prevent the lowest part of your home from flooding. Always located in a sump pit custom built for drainage, sump pumps are small but capable, and are built to remove the entirety of the liquid that accumulates there, ensuring your home is never under threat of flooding.

There are two types of sump pumps available on our site. Submersible sump pumps have motors that are completely submersed in oil, which means they are well equipped to take up debris without clogging. The motor is mounted above the sump in pedestal sump pumps, which makes them slightly more vulnerable, which tends to result in a shorter lifespan.

If you aren’t certain which type of sump pump is ideal for you, get in touch on 08453 664 754.

Condensate pumps

Condensate is an inadvertent but unavoidable consequence of having any kind of heating system in your home. Heating produces steam which, when the temperature drops, condenses into droplets of acidic water. This is where condensate pumps come in; they remove all this waste water that the rest of the system simply cannot.

Given their small size, condensate pumps are a quick and convenient way to transport and dispose of waste water successfully. If you have any questions or queries, contact us on 08453 664 754.

Sewage pumps

The disposal of wastewater isn’t quite as straightforward as you might think. Most of the time, it goes through without a hitch. But if the drainage process doesn’t go exactly as planned, floodwater and groundwater can combine with solids to pose a serious problem. That is why it is important to invest in a sewage pump.

Different sewage pumps are designed to deal with different amounts of particulate. We stock a range of sewage pumps and we are happy to help you find the perfect one for your purposes, simply call to speak to a member of our team on 08453 664 754.

Self-priming pumps

Self-priming pumps are centrifugal pumps that have the unique ability to function whilst containing air and water. Where regular centrifugal pumps are stopped in their tracks when they are not fully submersed in water (they become unstuck by the difference in pressures when air is present in a significant quantity), self-priming pumps can operate in such conditions by maintaining a primed pumping state.

Self-priming pumps are a popular purchase owing to their versatility. In agriculture, they are used for surface irrigation and the distribution of fertilisers. In industry, they are used for the transportation of corrosive and waste water.

Feel free to consult one of our team on 08453 664 754 to discuss which variations of power, volume capacity and gear pump levels are best for you.

Circulating pumps

Put simply, circulating pumps are used to move gases, liquids and everything in-between through a closed circuit. As simple as it sounds, there are a wide variety of uses for circulating pumps – from controlling under floor heating in your home, to providing a supply of potable water in a restaurant.

Perhaps the most efficient use for a circulating pump though, is for supplying a constant source of hot water, which as well as being convenient, reduces water use and the accompanying costs.

Grey water pumps

Grey water pumps are a must-have for anyone who considers themselves even slightly aware of current environmental issues. All the water that would otherwise be wasted when it disappears down your sink and shower plughole is recycled and repurposed for use in other domestic applications.

Grey water pumps result in a dramatic reduction in water consumption, and an equally dramatic decline in bills. Although grey water pumps remain most popular with businesses like restaurants and hotels, they can be an important addition for anyone.

End suction pumps

Owing to their cost-effective ability to transfer liquids reliably, end suction pumps are a popular choice for many different purposes, the most common of which are heating, ventilation and air conditioning.

End suction pumps are the simplest denomination of centrifugal pump. They work by carefully controlling the velocity of liquid travelling within, until it reaches the volute casing, where high velocity is converted into high pressure.

The two types of end suction pumps that we stock here are close coupled and frame mounted. If you need any help deciding which of the two is best for you, get in contact with a member of our dedicated team on 08453 664 754.
