Hi all,

First post here :-)

I’m looking into building a on top of my existing rear ground floor extension. At present I can’t find any proof that the building has deep enough footings for an additional storey, not sure how i would find out?

Anyways, even if the current footings aren’t deep enough, would i be able to build above using a timber frame? Apologies if this is a stupid question.

thanks.

    Hi Rich,

Welcome to the website. Planning and building is hardly straight forward, so no such thing as a stupid question here!

This is really a question for a structural engineer or architect with sound structural knowledge. They would have to see the building to assess suitability for extension.

If it is possible, a lightweight timber frame may be a good option.

    I hope this helps,
    Lindsey
