Hi, I am about to start a new project that involves building a new house (in place of an existing building). The existing house was built 60 years ago and I have been instructed to get a soil test (report) for foundation purposes.

I have been quoted £2,000 (£2,400 inc VAT) for five X 5 meter soil samples. Is this price reasonable or excessive for 3,500ft sq new build? Is this process absolutely necessary?

Thanks in advance.

    Good afternoon Mick,
You dont say where you are geographically but the most recent one I had done in Windsor three months ago was for 3no sink holes to 5M and it cost £750 without any lab testing.
Its almost obligatory now with L.A. and warranty providers, especially if the site has history.
