The site has been excavated and – as you can see – we have cut down into the bank and you get a sense of how the building will sit right down in the land, with very little impact on the surrounding houses. We have just pegged out the building for the first time on site, as we were previously unable to do so with the existing outbuildings in the way.

Pegging out is a crucial step in the self build process and is done to show exactly where the building will sit so that foundations can be built accordingly. It is recommended to get the professionals — you need to get it right or the measurements you have for the structure will be affected. So, we had a full laser measured survey done prior to any work, and the lasers have been used in pegging out to set the dimensions.

It has been shocking as we can now see how big the building is going to be. We can also visualise where the rooms will be and see what views the windows to those rooms will have.

Next stage is digging trenches and getting the drainage in.
