We plan to renovate our 1950s home in order to make it more energy efficient. We asked The Energy Trust to undertake a survey — our Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating was D. However, if we add cavity wall insulation and further roof lagging, our EPC will still remain a D. How can we reduce our U-values to be more in line with PassivHaus standard? Would a ground-source heat pump help boost our EPC rating?

Dealing with energy-efficiency issues, it is important to remember that moving much above a D rating is not easy for any old house. An A rating means that the house has zero CO2 emissions
