Six custom build plots have been released at the award-winning custom build ‘Homemade at Heartlands’ site, a former mining area and World Heritage site in Cornwall.

The release of these plots marks the first phase of the Heartlands project from Carillion Igloo and the Homes and Communities Agency.

About the Project

The project includes 50 terraced and four detached eco-friendly homes. Buyers will be able to buy their plot and have their three bedroom home built by a custom builder of their choice for around £200,000.

“Homemade at Heartlands is a UK first — we’re giving purchasers the opportunity to design their new home in a pioneering custom build community which has sustainability at its heart,” says Chris Brown, executive chairman of Igloo.

“At Homemade at Heartlands, purchasers can pick every detail — from the exterior look of their property to the internal layout and quality of fixtures and fittings and the renewable energy features.”

Six Custom Build Developers

The six custom home developers working on the project are:

  • Balehaus (ModCell straw bale developer)
  • Dwelle (developer of prefabricated eco homes)
  • MyHouse (sustainable homes manufactured in the company’s Slovenia factory)
  • Lightbox House (developer of energy-efficient homes with a ‘bow-tie’ floorplan and undulating roof design)
  • LittleBig House (from architectural practice AOC and built using local craftspeople and locally available materials)
  • Potton (working with partners HTA Design and using energy-efficient building systems).

Heartlands won the Best Custom Build award at the Housing Design Awards in July. Judges described the project as a “ground breaker”.
