When Jade Lewis decided to convert her loft into a bedroom for her son, she wanted to make the room as creative and interactive as possible; she therefore turned to Thistle Magnetic Plaster.
Jade was aware of the innovative product before the build of her loft conversion began and she loved the idea and concept behind it. It helped her create a changeable, interactive space. She had always thought the product was most suited to a child’s bedroom, as it provides a wealth of choice when decorating and is also highly practical. So, she jumped at the chance to install Thistle Magnetic Plaster in her son, Dylan’s, bedroom.
The original idea was to install it so that Dylan could use the magnetic plaster to attach his drawings and work to the wall.
Jade comments: “Dylan loves sticking bits and pieces to the walls. He currently uses blu-tack and sellotape to attach his work, and when he changes his mind and wants to swap one picture for another, the walls are left with marks. That’s actually where the idea of using magnetic plaster came from – we thought at least that way he can attach whatever he wants to the wall and move it around without damaging the paintwork!”
However, it wasn’t until Jade’s mum suggested creating a mural on one of the bedroom walls that the family became aware of the full potential of Thistle Magnetic Plaster. Jade continues: “Dylan absolutely loves Moshi Monsters, so my mum suggested painting a Moshi Monster Island mural on the bedroom wall. We then decided to create Moshi Monster character magnets to bring the mural to life and turn the room into a really engaging and interactive space for Dylan.”
Thistle Magnetic Plaster offers limitless options when it comes to decorating any room in the house and the current design in Dylan’s bedroom goes a long way to prove that. The Moshi Monster Island is where popular children’s characters, Moshi Monsters, live. With this as a backdrop in Dylan’s bedroom and magnetic characters for him to move around the island, the wall in effect has become his favourite toy!
Jade adds: “We are absolutely delighted with the end result. Not only does it look great but Dylan really gets to use his imagination when playing with the Moshi Monsters. Plus the fact the toys are attached to the wall means I don’t need to pick them up off the floor and tidy them away!
“Dylan was thrilled with the wall and when the finishing touches were being made to the conversion he couldn’t wait to move in. Now that he’s moved into his new room he plays with the Moshi Monsters wall all the time, and all his friends love it too.”
Dylan’s fascination with Moshi Monsters won’t last forever, but the versatile nature of Thistle Magnetic Plaster means that the design of the wall can easily be painted over. As he gets older, and makes his way through school, Dylan can use the wall in a more practical way. Instead of being something to play with, he can use it as a place to attach his revision notes and study guides.
Although the Lewis family found the installation of Thistle Magnetic Plaster slightly different to normal plaster, they also discovered that the process was very straightforward. Jade comments: “Magnetic plaster has to be applied slightly thicker than regular plaster but the plasterer did a great job. The plasterer was also really impressed with the product. He thought it was an amazing concept and was very easy to use.”
In fact, Jade and her family are so happy with Thistle Magnetic Plaster that they are considering using it in other parts of the house. They would like to create a magnetic plaster wall in their home study as they think it would work great in there as a mood board for gathering thoughts. The thought of attaching paperwork to the wall and leaving the desk clear to work at is a real draw for the Lewis family.
