"We would have bought The Golf House even without stepping inside,” says Stuart Smith. “After years of searching for a house in the area, we just knew that it was perfect.” Looking at pictures of the 1930s former golf clubhouse, taken back in 2002 when Stuart and Pat first bought it, the appeal is initially hard to fathom.
The flat roof, brown PVCu windows and dark, slate-hung façade created the impression of nothing more exciting than a drab university campus building. A visit to the site, however, with its location high above the River Dart in Devon, explains precisely why the couple fell so head over heels in love with the place.
