We have started a large extension on our listed property and in so doing have built on our existing parking spaces. We have several options, one of which is to relocate the spaces to the front of the property. This is already tarmac and has a 6' wide gate onto a C road. We have space for 2 cars, with plenty of door-opening clearance for both. There is a dropped kerb for the neighbouring driveway and we would only need to extend this by about 2 kerb lenths to accommodate our entance; and widen our gates to 8'. We have approached the local highways authority who do not think that we can turn our cars in the space provided. How much 'officially' do we need? We cannot prove this in practice as we cannot get the cars through the 6' gates. We spoke to a highways consultancy locally but they want about £1k to look at the project!
