Home Insurance for Builders - Advertisement Feature

If you thought that it was only home owners who required insurance services then think again. Home builders will also need to take out the relevant cover. The construction of a house is a very serious business and there are many potential hazards to be aware of. Here are some of the more well-known types of home insurance for those in the property construction industry...

Home Insurance for Builders - Advertisement Feature

Workers Compensation Insurance.

This type of insurance will provide cover for any employees who are working for a builder. Work-related injuries, death or the contracting of disease will all play a major part in the policy. By having this insurance, workers (and their families) will have the assurance of being fairly compensated should anything untoward occur. It is normal practice for this kind of policy to cover any medical treatment, loss of income through disability and any costs incurred on the road to recovery. If an employee were to be mortally injured whilst carrying out building work, then his/her family would receive injury compensation.

Builder’s Risk Insurance.

A policy in this category will protect builders from the loss, theft or damage to their equipment, materials and structure whilst a home is being put together. It will normally cover work on any kind of property, be it a new build or the remodeling of an existing structure.  Builder’s Risk Insurance will also offer protection to many of those who are working alongside the construction firm.  Both machinery owners and sub-contractors will receive a substantial amount of cover with this type of policy.

Contractor’s Pollution Insurance.

It is essential for builders to take out this type of cover simply because of today’s tough ‘eco laws’ and serious environmental concerns. There are many phases in the construction of a home where pollution is a major risk. Of course, any responsible construction company will do their utmost to avoid any damage to the environment. This insurance can provide builders with a good degree of protection if any claims of environmental damage are made during the building process.

Vehicle Liability Insurance.

During the construction of a property many vehicles will be used; transport for employees, the carrying of equipment and deliveries of materials. Obviously, the owner of a vehicle will be held responsible should an accident of any kind occur.
If there is some sort of mishap on site, then Vehicle Liability Insurance will provide protection against any claims made by a third party. It will also cover most legal costs that come about as a direct result of the incident.

As you can see, the construction of a family home is no light matter. It may seem straightforward enough for a gang of builders to come along and build a property, but there are many different phases in the process and they all have their own unique dangers.

So next time you find yourself thinking that home insurance is a complicated business, spare a thought for those in the construction industry. They certainly have far more potential hazards to be insured for than your typical home owner!

Its worth mentioning that builders also require Public Liability Insurance to protect themselves against potential buyers injurying themselves whilst viewing a house.
