I really dislike the look of solar panels on roofs - you can see them a mile off! Are there any other products which work as well as solar panels, but are more likely to blend?

This question was put to the TV presenter Oliver Heath in a web chat on solar power. Here's the link - http://www.homebuilding.co.uk/feature/webchat-oliver-heath?Array

Hope this helps!

We've had them for years on our home and they have worked a treat. but they are pretty large and bulky. i think you can get flat panel ones now that are less bulky than the tubes, but i'm not sure

I think it depends on the style of your self build. The solar panels used in this project, http://www.homebuilding.co.uk/your-projects/passive-solar-self-build, actually work quite well, i think.

It always helps if you're planning to incorporate lots of glazing as well for a passive solar effect.

Hi, take a look at this site:

http://www.imerys-roof-tiles.co.uk/united_kingdom/

They sell solar PV and solar water tiles that are designed to fit in place of roof tiles and blend in with other tiles in their range. They look pretty good and Imerys produce a wide range of really good looking clay tiles too.
