Inspiration and advice for your building project
I am currently looking to extend my 1950s built, 3 bed detached house and am very interested in using SIPs. Has anyone had any experience with using sips for extensions or advice on how to go about it?

Hi,
I'm also interested in this side of possible technique / materials to build our extension.
Out of curiosity, have you gleaned any useful information about this topic from any other online resource at all, as I note there hasn't been a reply to your post to date here?
I have found http://www.sipbuildingsystems.co.uk/default.aspx and am going to give them a call, just to talk through initial thoughts or concerns and get a little extra information and take it from there.
Regards,
Rob
I am no expert, and it's a long time since you asked the question, so I expect you know all the answers by now, BUT the experiences of our own extension project - where we, too, thought of using SIPS - tells me that trying the marry the SIPS panels to the old elevations would probably be a nightmare. Unless the SIPS manufacturers have a way of overcoming the problem - ie by treating the extension as a completely separate unit, somehow, build hard-up against the original house.....
