How can I find the land owner?

Question

Asked by: Terry Helm

I’ve found the ideal plot, but after almost a year I am still no closer to finding out who owns it. The Land Registry has registered the proprietors as living there — but the house that stood on the plot was demolished 20 years ago. Please help!

It’s very difficult, and it’s always possible that the land has slipped out of ownership and that one day an adverse possession may be the only way of it coming back into use, but that’s a bit long term for you I imagine. You say it was demolished. If so, by who? Contact local demolition companies or architectural salvage yards to see if they have any record of the owners.
