Design Ideas for Sloping Sites
A look at the design implications of building your own home on a sloping site
We’re converting an old barn, but we want to furnish it in a more modern style. My husband favours black antique window furniture, but I’m not sure this will go with our modern interiors. What do you recommend?
If you are planning on fitting out your barn in a modern style, then I agree that antique black window furniture will not complement the rest of your scheme. Rather than going for something contemporary, though, I would opt for a more classic style that will suit your modern-style interiors, as well as the more traditional nature of the building.
Without knowing what your windows are actually like, it is difficult to advise on style; but chrome (brushed or polished) tends to go with everything and looks particularly good on white-painted windows. Nickel finishes, too, could be a good compromise, as they have a slightly more traditional look to them than chrome. Companies such as Ironmongery Direct (ironmongerydirect.co.uk) have a good selection, and so do the DIY warehouses.
