Underkeepers Cottage

Vote now for your favourite homeUnderkeepers Cottage is a sympathetic restoration of a 17th Century Grade 2 listed building uninhabited since 1936. It was in a state of dilapidation and structurally unsound.

Local craftsmen were employed to maintain as many original features as possible, using reclaimed material and features within the build. The oak for the extension has been cut from within a mile of the site from our own woodland, likewise flints have been collected from the grounds and bricks reclaimed from the original building.

The heating is provided by a groundsource heat pump feeding into underfloor heating throughout the house. In the old kitchen in the original brick floor was lifted and put back with worn bricks returning to their original location.

Amazing home

A wonderful transformation, it looks like the owners got to it just in time. It's great to see it restored so sympathetically.

A stunning restoration. Pity there are no interior shots. After all it is the interior that makes any building into a home or not. So without that info, how can we judge with conviction? If the inside is as well finished as the outside, then it may well be stunning too.

The exterior appears to have been very sympathetically renovated, materials chosen and used well and any new additions detailed with care and attention to the original. It fits into its surrounding location beautifully.

I wonder if the original house appeared quite so charming in its heyday? It does now.

Congratulations on saving the building and creating such a wonderful space to live in, or to walk by, see and just enjoy.

Hansel and Gretel!

Surely the prettiest house here, you could almost eat it! What a lovely cottage, and beautiful harmony between the restored original and the new extension. Total delight, I look forward to seeing interior shots!
