Philpott House

Vote now for your favourite homePhilpott House, designed by Stan Bolt Architects, enjoys spectacular views of the South Devon coast - and it is the views around which this contemporary home has been built.

A strong modernist-inspired shape and plenty of zinc (roof and cladding) mean that this is a house not afraid of its exemplary modern credentials. That's because they are, in many ways, the only solution to getting as much light and that fabulous sea air into the heart of the house.

Despite its lofty design credentials, this project is far from grand in terms of scale - at just under 150m2 and costing a little over £300,000 to build.

That view is amazing! I love the open plan living space, I can just imagine sitting on the sofa on a stormy night with hot cup of tea watching the waves crash!

Well its only fair we say somethingbeatuhfuil about this build..its a winer !! Fansatsic views, sexy interiors...BUT...haven't we seen all this before...no doubt about this one its an architects
dream...but is it a true self-build...pay a large wedge upfront. get a great design... beautfilu...customer pays fee and stands back and watches the whole thing unfold, occassioanally brushes the floor and pretends its a self-build...lovely house.....but is it a house that people can build vote for Underkeepers cottage its more honest...just listen to the eco-archtect speak "hilpott House evolves from the traditional of abstraction and economy of form, allied to a modern sense of light, space and materials to achieve a visual simplicity with a direct, robust and physical relationship with its landscape.
What a load of c***
Borne from a direct response to the constraints and opportunities of its site and compromising forms and materials appropriate for its function and setting, Philpott House strives to truly reflect the authentic nature of building a particular function in a particular place and at a particular time without resort to historic pastiche or modern rhetoric, and in doing so to provide a positive contribution to, and enhancement of, its environment

Well its up to you readers - VOTE for the FORM (whatver that means) or vote for the most ECO. vote for Upkeepers, hip , hip , horray !!!!

I tend to agree with

I tend to agree with Charolette. Modernist is really difficult to do without the exterior ending up looking like a shopping centre, visitor's centre or other public building.

Having made an earlier comment, I am a bit surprised that this house isn't getting many votes. I am also a little wary of people voting annonymously - if you have something to say, then a nickname or just Christain name would be better than "anonymous".

I hope the voting isn't subject to a facebook or twitter campaign from one of the finalists - that would ruin it.
