The landscape for existing homeowners who want to add renewables just got easier.
As of December 1st, ground source heat pumps are allowed under Permitted Development (alterations to your home that don’t require planning consent).
Air source heat pumps are also considered Permitted Development as long as they meet a list of requirements. Click here to see them. Interestingly there seems to be no mention of restrictions on the noise output of air source heat pumps, which I know has caused a few issues in the past.
The terms for allowing wind turbines under PD have also changed. They too can be viewed at the Planning Portal.
